Apply to Represent HCONS at the 2017 ONS Capitol Hill Days

ONS is pleased to be bringing 100 oncology nurses back to the nation’s capital to learn about advocating for their patients and profession and meet with state legislators to discuss important issues. The 2017 ONS Capitol Hill Days will be held Wednesday, September 6 – Thursday, September 7, in Washington, DC.

Submit your responses  to the following 3 questions to in order to be nominated to attend the 2017 ONS Capitol Hill Days. Deadline for submissions is Tuesday, June 6, 2017.


1.  Why are you interested in participating in the 2017 ONS Capitol Hill Days training event?

2.  What skills do you hope to learn by attending the 2017 ONS Capitol Hill Days training event, and how will these benefit HCONS and your work setting?

3.  What do you currently consider the most pressing policy issue that is affecting oncology and the care of the oncology patient in this country today?

The Houston Chapter of the Oncology Nursing Society (HCONS) is offering 3 competitive scholarships for HCONS members in good standing who are interested in learning more about oncology nursing at the Annual ONS Congress in Washington, DC April 28 – May 1, 2016. The scholarship amount will pay up to $1000.00. The award will be paid when original expense receipts (not reimbursed by another entity) are received. Deadline: Applications must be received by Friday February 5, 2016. All entries are to be submitted via the HCONS website at HCONS ONS Application Form

1. Submit a paragraph about one of the following:

a. Describe what is most challenging to you about oncology nursing practice.

b. How do you expect to use what you learn at Congress?

2. The completed application must be submitted by Friday, February 5, 2016

The recipients will be announced via email notification on March 16, 2016. Payment will be provided upon of the original receipts not reimbursed by another entity (submit receipts directly to Torina Lane). Eligible expenses include registration fees, airfare and hotel costs up to $1000.

Speak up for the nursing profession and make your voice heard at Texas Nurses Association’s Nurse Day at the Capitol 2013!

Join nurses from all over Texas and let state legislators know how they can help the nursing profession and improve health care for all Texans.

Many TNA members cite their experiences at TNA’s Nurse Day events for opening their eyes to the many facets of the nursing profession, and inspiring them to get informed about nursing issues and encouraged about the future of nursing in Texas.

Nurse Day at the Capitol offers nurses the opportunity to speak directly with their state legislators or the legislator’s staff, and educate them on issues concerning nursing as well as any specific bills that nursing currently supports.

Learn about the nursing issues the Texas Legislature will take on in the 2013 session, become a voice for nursing, and enjoy all the wonders that Austin has to offer at TNA’s Nurse Day at the Capitol 2013, taking place February 25-26th.

Nurse Day is sponsored by the Texas Nurses Association and its Governmental Affairs Committee, and aims to keep nursing issues in the legislative forefront.

Emails were sent out yesterday to ALL members of HCONS to participate in the 2013 HCONS board elections. Voting will remain open till December 4, 2012 11:59pm.  Check your email and Vote soon.

Members will elect a new HCONS President-Elect, HCONS Treasurer-Elect, and the HCONS Secretary. The nominees are the following:
