Hello and welcome to the HCONS website.
I hope that each of you is enjoying the beginning of 2009 and that you have many plans and goals for the New Year! I am very excited to be serving you this year as your president and hope that each of you feel free to contact me at any time with questions, concerns, ideas or just to say Hi!
I would like to take a minute to remind each of you that our year begins in January. That means that in order to stay an active member on the roster you have to pay your dues and fill out new information for 2009. I want to make sure everyone is aware of this so that you aren’t surprised at the meeting if you have not rejoined yet this year. I hope that each of you will get your registration in as soon as possible and that you will invite a colleague to join with you. Please remember that you must be a member of ONS before you can become a member of the local chapter. We have many exciting programs coming up where you will enjoy a nice dinner while being educated on the latest information in oncology nursing. In addition, you will receive CEUs for most of the programs. Please click on Membership Services and join today – we would love to have you!!!
I would also encourage you to check out the fun activities that our organization will be participating in during the coming months. Participating in these activities gives you a great opportunity to network with your colleagues in the Houston area and many times to socialize with the patients we all care so much about.
I hope that each of you will visit our Award Winning Newsletter. Vilma Lopez does an excellent job of bring us all the news about what is going on and what our members our doing. If you present a lecture or poster or if you receive an award or certification we would love for you to let Vilma know so that she can include it in our newsletter.
Finally, I would like to encourage you all to become active in our organization. We love to have new ideas and new faces. Currently we are looking for someone with a love and interest in education. Susan Starry, our chair for Education, needs someone that can help and be willing to take over this area next year. Susan does a fantastic job with our OCN review and other educational offerings. This would be a wonderful opportunity for someone wanting to be more active and is interested in education to mentor and learn from someone who knows the ropes and has been very successful with planning the review course. Please contact me or Susan if you are interested.
